Seeing as it was locked, and old. We need more. Barely any of the listed ops play on GA TS when I'm on. I can't account for other times.

Perhaps boost the ladder refs to gameop seeing as they already have a position of responsibility?

There's only 1 ladder ref left now. Wippy didn't want it anymore as he got sick of people spamming and bugging him thinking that he actually had power to do anything more than direct people to GameOps. Nem is currently out of action without an internet connection. This lead to me getting yelled at during a freeplay match I joined last night as I was late having been in my own match before it. Was actually 3 matches at the same time, all with referees requested. My team was playing in one of them! Fun...! (And before anyone says 'it's only freeplay so refs aren't needed', I know that, but people usually request them for a reason. Whether that be they aren't too sure on how to operate the server, or whether they feel more comfortable playing with some form of 'official' in there with them. I don't mind giving up an hour to help people out with that, but can't be expected to show up to every match. The same applies to the GameOp(s???).)

As for more Ops, I believe that GA aren't currently accepting GameOp applications (according to their FAQ). You can however still access the page where you apply (if you remember the URL), but Urban Terror isn't on the list of positions to apply for.

It would be nice to have someone step up and take care of the ladder. After all the time we waited and fought to get one, (years!) it's a shame to see it fall back in to freeplay. While having it in freeplay allows more challenges, (as you can challenge anyone, not just those a few ranks above you), it kind of defeats the purpose of a ladder.

Happy to help out in any way I can.
I'll even treat it seriously if that's what's required.

Seriously...

Possibly chat op type members? As in, they can kick people and temp ban because of TKing, foul language etc. The basics?

GameArena Admins are higher than GameArena GameOps. Admins are more about GA itself, not individual games and servers. They decide on who becomes an Op for games. They usually are a GameOp for each game that they happen to play. There's probably one Admin per game that looks at that game specifically. IE not all the admins give a **** about UrT, there might be one, he/she decides on any many major issues.

Op complaints go to admins, not to ops :)

Well as far as the ladder is concerned i just dont have the time to put into it other wise i would. As far as ops being around im around every night and most weekends.I cant be around durin the day as i work.

I would suggest if you dont use cogs/game arena client use it as im always in there ready to jump in and sort out problems/trouble makers in the server i cant be in game constantly. But i am always in cogs.

I think the whole point of this thread is that we need more ops, it's fairly obvious that with ops not playing anymore and the ladder stopped we need some new blood...

We already are and will continue. Everyone's been playing AGS now cos their ops are active, moreso than GA.

There are several issues that alter the availability of GameOps. Addition of new ops requires more than just a willingness to participate; it requires a proven track record of performance and maintenance of certain standards of behaviour, including, but not limited to, a clean record when it comes to being disciplined by GameOps and not having used cheats in the past.

The ladder has fallen apart due to a number of factors, but for the most part, the main op doing most of the administration has been burned out by serial poor behaviour of several teams. It's necessary for teams participating in ladders to not only know and understand the rules, but to behave with a certain degree of goodwill to other ladder participants.

Ladder managers and GameOps are not and should not have to be baby-sitters; Team Captains should be ready and quick to discipline their own team members for violation of the rules before a dispute or complaint can arise. If a Team Captain cannot do so, they should not enter their teams in to the ladder because their behaviour becomes a burden on the system. The rules make it very clear that accusations of cheating is unacceptable, and communication between teams during matches is to be kept to a minimum and only for essential game organisation purposes.

It's likely that part of the problem with the ladder was that kp10 was too good or appeared to be unbeatable for the other teams. If teams feel that they cannot obtain top spot, they're probably going to be less likely to participate as enthusiastically. Perhaps in the future, Terror, you may want to consider that in any recruitment you choose to do. When people can't win, some individuals feel the urge to do their best to ruin things for others, and this community needs more reasons to encourage better behaviour, not less.

The old school op i remember was trog, i think he might have been the op for the optus servers back in the 2.2 days not to sure but last i saw of him, he was admin for an isp.

Now we all know cb was not loved as an op for his hardness to people misbehaving and etc on the server (even with kp10 members), but how many hackers did you find back then, not even 1 a week. Now every single day without fail you will find them, and we know who most of them are but can we do anything? NO. As they are really smart now with wall hacks and not looking so obvious and changing there ip’s and other certain files, but you only have to ban a few of them and they will get the message.

For some reason GA was the most popular server to play on maybe still is but more people are playing on other servers cause of the op presence. This can be seen on how many people connect to cogs now.

We do need to get more active ops (when I mean active I mean ops that play the game on GA) or we are going to lose nata as well. It’s too much for 1 person by himself, how is he meant to enjoy the game as the only op. I don't see how this is a hard decision if you have countless number of people asking for another op to be instated you can tell there is a problem. Now I’m sure half the people here are reputable enough to do the job. Just pick 1, maybe trail him/her and get the job done.

Problem solved.

And as for the inactive ops, there’s no easy way to say it, if it’s a number thing why you can’t instate another op then the inactive ops need to be let go or they can stand down and get people in that are willing to sit there 3-5 hrs a night, like most of the people who have replied to this thread do

So very frustrated.

Arh i need that after what i saw tonight....... good night all.

I'm sorry Death, common sense is not allowed here. Please move along.

Being an admin on other servers gives an even greater perspective on the severe lack of an admin presence on GameArena. As an Interode/Games On Net Urban Terror game admin myself, there is hardly a single game where I'm not asking someone to be quiet and to stop misbehaving or where I don't place a ban for hacking. GameArena is becoming more and more like this with each passing day.

How can we combat that when there is no real effective way to ban a player? By increasing the admin presence IN servers and to have a team of admins who are easily contactable and will act if contacted. We are working on that over at Internode and it's definitely something that needs work here. Take Aussie Game Server as another example. That server is running with a large team of very active players as admins (Myself, OJ, Nat, Arch, Death, Daft and Demandred). I challenge anyone to find a time that you can't find one of them in the server or at least contact one (...and don't pick 4am when the server is empty!). How often do we see hackers in that server?

My only hope is that should the GameOp team ever be expanded, some time is taken to look in to candidates to ensure we aren't asking for more 3 months down the track... again.

More than a month later and....nothing has happened?

i sent GA an email regarding the situation and i got a reply!

"Hi, We appreciate your concern. We are currently looking into ways revamping how we administer our Urban Terror resources and opening applications for new ops is likely to be a part of that."

perhaps they really do care... :D

I'm always available to you if you need help/assistance with something Krueger.

You will find me logged into the Urban Terror chan on 'The Arena' everyday.

I also supply my MSN details to anybody that requests them so that i can be reached asap if needed. PM me in 'The Arena' if you would like these details.

You will find me in the TS server more often now that the Op list has been culled back.

They rarely play. With quite a few people playing, you'd imagine you'd get more than 3 semi-active ops. Not taking a hit at them, I know they have lives which is why there should be more. Given to the right people, would having too many even hurt anyone?
