Any chance of having the download re-enabled or better yet a current linux client for the firewall and chat components at least?
Last night our match server wouldnt stay up for longer than 30 seconds. I'm lucky there was a gameop on irc at the time but it would be nice to be on a level playing field as far as accessibility.
I have to run voice comms through wine and have enough issues as is. If there is a native client why isn't it available? Why is gamearena treating linux users like second class citizens?
They are hardly treating us as second class citizens, cogs works right of the box under wine for me.
The reason your having problems with voice comms under wine is not because wine is crap, Its because the entire Linux sound architecture leaves much to be desired.
Ahh thanks Syd! I'm not missing much in terms of the linux client but the chat component would be nice in case I ever need an op.
Adam I do take your point and I suspect part of the issues I'm having with venti are due to the (driverless) x-fi card which is sitting on my system at the moment and confusing the hell out of alsa (I see you've found my solution in another thread). However native apps > fake windows.
Is their an irc channel behind the cogs messaging or is it a proprietry protocol? Maybe GA could release enough info for some bright spark to write a GAIM plugin?
lol, inso, its liek drawing blood from a stone, dont bother, jut do what i did, monitor the server connection cgs makes makes through windies, and follow dat 2 da irc server
