Bit scared atm:

I've got the Corsair AX850 psu and the ASRock Z77 mobo.

I'm trying to make connection with ATX12V1 Atx 12v power connector from the PSU to Mobo.

My issue is, i've got the correct number of cords supplied, listed in PSU manual, but when trying to connect to 12V slot on mobo i get this:

Mobo slots:
ROUND, SQUARE, SQUARE, ROUND
SQUARE, ROUND, ROUND, SQURE

PSU cord pins:
ROUND, SQUARE,<break> ROUND, ROUND
SQUARE, ROUND,<break> ROUND, ROUND

I can find all other cords supplied by PSU.
Manual says that ATX12v cord has <break> to accomodate 4-pin or 8-pin 12v ATX power ports.
There are 2 of these cords as stated in supply manifest. (presumably one spare).
Both supplied are identical.
The <break> end is not the PSU connection as it does not say 650/750/850AX ONLY. This end connects to PSU
no other cords split into 4/8.

These ports do not match up. Surely a round port can go in a square, but it just doesn't seem right!?!?!!? I'm certain these are the cords for my 12v but really don't want to mess **** up.

halp!

Sometimes you can find cables that have more pins than normal.. e.g. you expect to have a plug that has 8 pins, but the cable has 12. In that case the left over pins often just sit along side. My advice is to never force any cables! Their will always be plugs that fit.

Anyway, by the sounds of it the cables your comparing might be the pci-e ones. *shrug*

2x PCIE cords supplied.

These have PCIE written on the connection end.

2x ATX12V1 cords supplied.

these break into 4 or connect to 8. My mobo is an 8 pin.
I can see these.

my issue is the combination is incorrect.

imo, it looks like it would fit. The round ones should fit in the square sockets. Give it a go and be gentle with it... the first 4 pins line up just right.

Yeah,

your picture helped to confirm they are correct cables.
I'm just superstitious about putting round into square, though it should fit yes....
i'll try.

Also,

should i plug power cables for PCIE directly from PSU - GPU or use the white 3pin, white sheathed adapter they gave me then plug that into the corresponding GPU cords????

It should be fine to go PSU to GPU. They give u the additional adapters just in case you have some crazy setup or the cables don't reach or something like that.

You have two power points to connect, the four point which has one semi round square which corresponds to the mobos round for the fans and lights, and the long black connector for the mobo power that could be 6 or 8 this connection can be dismantled if your mobo is 6 just pull the end off lego style.

just look for rounded hole that will line up with the rounded pin.

The graphics card has two 4 pin connectors these go into the graphics card the single 4 pin male goes into a power supply female and you have to check the pins are seated properly on some power supply's they get pushed back as you push them in.

Every slot should be square except for one which will be round line the round to the round and you cant go wrong

yeah,

only beers for a while, j's come up on my tests if i don't plan em right L:(

So, Power LED header:

3 pins ; chassis only has 2 connections....
MOBO Manual says PLED+ PLED+ PLED-
I can only find PLED + and PLED-. Do plug + into left, or middle pin, or am i missing something?

Put the positive in the positive and the negative in the negative. Shouldn't matter which positive if there are more than one. If it doesn't work, put it in the other. Doesn't really matter, all it is, is the light that is constantly powered on when the machine is running.

Take a good look at your power supply cables they are all marked they will have signs or symbols that will tell you if its for sound or what ever then look at your mobo manual for the corresponding header or tell us what mobo you got and then we can point out the correct place things go.

He means front pannel cables, not power supply cables.

OK, i feel i'm getting close...

* MOBO screwed in.
* CPU on + Fan on top, thermal paste pre-applied to sink. Heastsink fastened and tight
* GPU sitting in PCIE slot, restrained at slide-rail.
* RAM in correct bays (all bays filled, identical RAM)
* PSU installed and restrained with bolts and clasp
* HDD in, restrained with cage-bolt
* SSD in, restrained with cage-bolt ; screwed into 2.5inch mounting plate
* Optical drive in, restrained with mounting bolt

Power cables run from PSU to:

MOBO Main 24pin
MOBO 12V 8pin
GPU - 2x 6pin
HDD
SSD - shares cable with HDD
Optical Drive

Data cables run between:

Optical Drive (BlueRay) SATA1 - MOBO SATA1 slot
Chassis SATA reader SATA1 - MOBO SATA1 slot
SSD SATA3 - MOBO SATA3 slot
HDD SATA3 - MOBO SATA3 slot
______

cables and bits i still have sitting around (hard fastened to front-panel with exception of USB drive plate):
2x USB3.0 (blue) cables from front-panel (USB3.0 head is all that is available to plug)
a USB3.0 drive tray with 2 slots for above usb3.0 and a blue 20pin that I see should go to MOBO
4x cables with black&white insulation ; 3pin square head maybe 3mm x 5mm female
* Above i think is connection female for my fans of which i have 3
3x cables with black insulation; 3pin square head 3mmx5mm male
* see 2 lines above
Molex power adapter for fans? black 4-pin adapter

Reset SW from front
Power SW from front panel
HDD LED from front panel
LED + power
LED - power
_______

pretty sure i just gotta mount the USB3.0 in the drive cage, plug into mobo, plug 2x usb3.0 into the drive-cage thingy and that's that done.

pretty sure i've gotta plug the 3x fan Male connections into 3/4 of the female black&white connections, and then do something with black 4pin molex to make my fans go.

The front panel **** makes no sense to me though...

cautions/criticisms or corrections?

edit: also do not have attached:
HD Audio - can see spot for this on mobo instructions
USB - usb1.0 spot on mobo i guess?
1394 - can see 'front panel IEEE 1394 header' on mobo instructions

Connect hd audio as it's for your headphone jacks at the front of the case. I think 1394 is sound as well, I can't remember. But you only need one of the two, if it comes off the same cables as the HD audio lines, it's just a lower def audio.

And zaraq, you said sound cables were coming out of the psu. lol.

only plug one in?

Put both in. 1394 might be firewire, I can't even remember. Chances are you aren't even going to use it.

Should be right, unless you are a complete spastic. If it wont boot, but powers up, take out the bios battery and short it out or just leave it sit for a few mins then put it back in. I seem to get that issue sometimes.

I have a clr CMOS button, is that the same as shorting it out? Does that reset the bios?
That might be what I need to do to reinstall Windows Noth? ( from other thread.)
I remember I had to press that to get my new rig to fire up the first time.

my manual says that clear CMOS just resets to factory settings, but some information can still be left in there, which can only be cleared by removing CMOS battery. whatever that means :S

everything came together OK, thanks guys!

now i've just gotta work out how to boot from SSD but still allow HDD to be written to.

SSD boots windows, HDD is for mass storage, Steam.exe has been on HDD since creation, and today it tells me that i can't write to the folder :S.

I'm considering just uninstalling everything and wiping the drive clean.
