Are GameArena going to make MvM servers? Only GON has servers in Australia atm.

Also when will you add the maps so Server Administrators can make their own MvM servers?

I'm keen to rent a GA server or 2 for exclusive MvM use!

I'd love to hear from anyone doing this.

I noticed just now that the TF2 server rental prices had been dropped quite dramatically, $12/m for 12 slots and $24/m for 24 slots. Is this a permanent pricing?

Camaran: Only GON?We've got 20 or so online at the moment, with more coming up in the next few hours. I'm not sure what you mean about adding the maps.

Smadge1: I can't say 'permanent', but those have been the prices for about 6 months now. Of course, pricing can change. It would be $32 per month for an MvM server, as you need 32 player slots for each 6 person MvM server.

yeah, so they'd need to update the Server Rentals to offer a 32-slot server.

Please keep us updated if you can, thanks.

We don't currently offer 32 slots? I'll fix that tomorrow morning.

I won't be in a position to rent until next week anyway, but I certainly intend to!

AT the time of me posting this, I could not find any GA servers nor the maps on the server config.

So my server won't work because I just purchased a 12 slot?

Can I get my server fixed then? I can pay for a 32 slot server

You should also put a notice on the Server Rental page that a 32-slot server is required for MvM, saves confusion.

My GA / Mammoth hosted server upgraded no problem. I have been running MvM maps since yesterday afternoon. I only have a 20 slot server and it seems to work ok. I'm not sure if that reduces bots / difficulty or anything. If anyone has a link to an official source stating the requirements I'd love to see them. :) I've done a bit of Googleing but there doesn't seem to be much (yet!).

One point I will mention though is that I was able to load the maps, but the server was crashing after about 30 seconds of the wave starting. My server has a default configuration for OzFortress highlander league. Once I commented out all the cvar's basically back to stock - the game stopped crashing. There are obviously some cvars that the new mod isn't happy about being changed from default, so if your game is crashing it might be getting your server as close to stock as possible.

32 player servers are now available for rental. We are testing them internally, but if you have any issues, let me know via the support request page.

Thanks Malth, my server is up and running smoothly.

32 players is the recommended number of slots for a MvM server I believe. The bots take up player spots, so the lower number of slots you have after the 6 players means that there will be less bots spawning and could potentially make it a bit easier.

Just set your map rotation to include the 3 MvM Maps

mvm_decoy
mvm_mannworks
mvm_coaltown

At the moment my Visible Max Players is set to -1 and Allow Spectators is turned on. I might try playing around with those when I get home.

Also a heads up, your server might sit on "starting" for quite a long time. Mine took about 1.5 hours before it was ready.

I think I already know the answer to this, but is it possible for GA to host some MvM maps with the advanced missions running on them?

Each MvM map has 3 missions which I assume have different waves and bots to fight. All the maps run the Normal mission (the first of 3) as a default. I would like to attempt the harder ones, and am sure that others would like to as well. However, I'm not sure if non-Mann Up (Valve paid) servers can run these missions, even though the matchmaking system has these missions as a search parameter.

Yes, we can. If I try tonight I'll break something, so I'll try to find some time tomorrow (Saturday) to set some up. I'll almost certainly take them out of the matchmaking system so you'll only be able to find them via the server browser - that should make them easier to join for GA users.

I'll update this thread when its done.

Okay, thanks :)

Wasn't sure if it was even possible. Found some information though, if it helps:

Don't know how random teams are going to find running a more difficult campaign, but it will be fun to try.

Ta DiscRider.

I was doing that last night on a test server I ran up, what I need now is a way to make that into a formal maplist. I guess my other option is to give you all the rcon password so you can change the mission setting yourself, but maybe its just my lack of sleep after staring at TF2 servers for the last few days that makes that look like a good idea.

I just saw in the latest patch notes, that the server won't start MvM unless maxplayers is set to 32.

Quote:
Updated the dedicated server to exit when attempting to start a Mann vs. Machine map with less than 32 maxplayers

Tbh, I only just found out that you can vote for the harder difficulty settings through the TF2 voting system. So if we need to manually set it we can through the vote. Just not a lot of players know about it.

I have not tried it on my server, but according to the people on the hlds mailing list changing the "tf_mvm_missioncycle.res" will let you restrict what missions are in the cycle.
Code:
"tf_mvm_missioncycle.res"
{
   "categories" "1"

   "1"
   {
      "count" "6"

      "1"
      {
         "map" "mvm_decoy"
         "popfile" "mvm_decoy_advanced"
      }

      "2"
      {
         "map" "mvm_coaltown"
         "popfile" "mvm_coaltown_advanced"
      }

      "3"
      {
         "map" "mvm_mannworks"
         "popfile" "mvm_mannworks_advanced"
      }

      "4"
      {
         "map" "mvm_decoy"
         "popfile" "mvm_decoy_advanced2"
      }

      "5"
      {
         "map" "mvm_coaltown"
         "popfile" "mvm_coaltown_advanced2"
      }

      "6"
      {
         "map" "mvm_mannworks"
         "popfile" "mvm_mannworks_ironman"
      }
   }
}
