Put together a live music line-up to take place over 2 days, with 6 bands/artists on each day.
The first 3 artists on each day get 1 hour to play and the last 3 get 1.5 hours.
The artists can be from any time, living/dead etc.

Day 1
The Future Sound of London
Soundgarden
Cynic
-
The Prodigy
Rage Against The Machine
Tool

Day 2
Fear Factory
Death
Carcass
-
Metallica
Strapping Young Lad
Meshuggah

Keep it civil people, this isn't a contest.

Well its your thread but maybe if you made it easier like: take any 3 bands that are still performing and you get a live show at the venue of your choice . Then spice it up and say ok 3 bands of all time you get a live show who they gunna be?

now some might say hey thats just like saying name your top 3 fav bands but nah as some bands suck **** live -great clips/ music vids etc but you would rather use a power drill on your ear canal then be submitted to their incessant monkey screeching live

a live show should be huge. An experience. Not just some guys up the front doing a few tunes then walking off - sure its all about the music but a live show, to me, needs zing. And by zing i dont mean fireworks and big budget - one of the best live shows ive been to were el povo 4ZzZ market days in Brisbane - great crowds and a good day out.

Not like that **** sell out big day out corporate crapfest we are stuck with now as a festival

But getting back to your thread even then its really hard to go over all the music you know and love to see live and pick 3

btw your picks are all bad except The Future Sound of London is a great band but their live shows wouldnt be so interesting even with their live hook ups etc tho i hear the prodigy do a wicked live show

Your'e just being an *****, who are you to decide whats a good band or not. Mate it's all good you dress like a *** in public with a brown suite (see now you are probably thinking your'e a hypocrite to decide what looks good in public and what doesn't) It's the same deal, i don't decide how people dress and you don't decide what people listen to, end of story.

well seeing as its a froum for discussion we are made better thru adversity - when others contradict your own opinion and you both have a nice chat you usually are both better off for the chat after a civil exchange

saying **** you its my opinion **** off i dont want to talk about it leads to just more closed mindedness. Its elitist **** and arrogant.

you want to talk the relative merits of brown suits and their appeal, or lack there of, in our various social circles? Fine id like that.

You want to hear what bands i like and have a chat about why i like them, maybe tell some stories about how i came to like em or when i decided i like em, what was going on in my life what this **** all means then again thats great and of course you get to have to opposite opinion and why you dont like em or believe they are what i say they are. No problem.

But just shutting down and refusing to chat saying some **** line like "i like this you dont get an opinion" is a cop out and with that attitude you can go your whole **** little life with your same little **** opinions and never have to change because you will never hear any other opinion then the ones you like because they are just as **** dull as you- congratz

Haha mate, what you said was the bands he listened to are ****. You don't get an opinion of what he likes or not its not your choice its his, so stop trying to be music god or what ever your trying to pull and sit down pull your head out of your **** and shut your mouth.

You listed ****, Failstien and *** Day, u trollin *****? Your list would be my Nightmare line up and then AC/DC would be like "Dont worry son its just a dream..." then Angus Young would put out his hand, I would clench it tightly then everything would go white which would cause me wake me up.

it would just be a pointless debate. nothing you say would be able to change wether i like a band or not. sure im all for discussing our choices and delving a little deeper into why we chose the bands we chose. but the last thing i wanted in this thread was pages of arguments over whose bands are **** (in someone elses opinion), and what music is bad (in someone elses opinion) etc. yes, i do think that by coming out and saying all my choices are bad (except FSOL) is very immature of you imo. you offer no reasoning just come out and basically attempt to portray to me that you think all the bands i like are bad. if you feel that way, fine. but dont expect me to bite that bait and start trying to justify why i think they are good. i wont convince you regardless and you're not going to convince me to the contrary either.

what you could have said was, im not a fan of most of those bands but hey, whatever floats your boat. the point of this thread was simply to get people to have a think about what their "dream lineup" would be. if you were the promoter and could pick all the bands that played for your own "dream music festival", what would they be?

Would a dream lineup also include specific band formations including the deceased? We are talking dream lineup's here after all and saying Metallica with Cliff Burton would be a whole lot different to saying Metallica with Jason Newstead and is also a whole lot different than saying Metallica (presumedly meaning current line up).

yeah im all for specifying the line-up. id def want the cliff burton era lineup just cos he died when i would have been like 5 yrs old and never got the chance to see the band in its original lineup. could deal without dave mustaine in the lineup though, its gotta be kirk on lead.

its ok rulez, i know you were hoping to turn this thread into an opportunity to brag about your awesome, non-conformist, non-commercial, non sell-out, non corporate anti-console bands that are so, like, original, and like cool an no-one has heard of them cos they are so underground and eclectic/better than any other bands, bands. but your yet to actually post said lineup for all to gush and think deeply about, open our minds rulez, please. i mean youve posted 7 times in this thread but still produced no line-up, so cmon man, blow my mind already.

7.5 hours total each day = 2.5 hours per band for 3 shows per day.

Day one -
Killswitch Engage (Howard Jones on vocals)
Uriah Heep as is
Machine Head as is

Day two -
Metallica as at 1989
Whitesnake as is
Rainbow as at 1976-7 (although my true dream act would be Dio since that grants access to Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and Dio but a Dio line up that featured Ritchie Blackmore on electric guitar and Cozy Powell on drums but such a line up never existed).

Its very difficult to list bands because I like a ridiculous amount of them but I would never list a bunch of **** sell out traitors like Metallica.

Day 1: Power Metal/Heavy Metal

Primal Fear
Rhapsody of Fire
Helloween
-
Judas Priest
Iced Earth
Iron Maiden

Day 2: Death Metal/Thrash Metal
Obscura
Kataklysm
Behemoth or Belphegor? impossible to choose.
-
ONSLAUGHT
Testiment
Havok

That was really **** hard to do.

Yes.

Now I want to add Black Sabbath, Asgard, HALFORD, Hellcannon, Grand Sermon, Hypocrisy, AC/DC, Armoured Saint, Megadeath, Def Leppard, Led Zepp, Nile, Vader, Thy Antichrist, Beyond Creation, Pink Flyod, Rodrigo verse Gabriella, Warbringer, Kruisen, Monty Python Live, Gravedigger, Cradle of Filth, Vader, Arch Enemy, Racer X, Morbid Angel, this could go on forever.

The only 3 Im dead serious about is Judas Priest(the greatest metal band to ever walk the Earth), Iced Earth and Iron Maiden I would **** kill to see those bands.

i do live inner city Melbourne so it would be very easy for me to throw up some weird little bands that just play small obscure venues that no ones really heard of,,, yet,,, but everyone will be talking about in 5 years time but,,,

But you know what? You have a pretty much dead thread here until i came along, added a little conflict bumped it a few times got some posts up, not much but some. I made this thread better but you don't see that because your head lives up your **** with all the stereotypical hipster lines you think you know so well you get to parody them

i like how you claim to have "made this thread better" by going on a mini rant in your original post

really? its really that hard? harder than the babble youve bothered to type throughout this thread, instead of just producing a lineup....or you know, leaving when you decided all you were going to do was
ruleofbookz wrote:

wow, awesome rulez i love how you claim my picks are bad, then go onto say well "i hear" the prodigy do a wicked live show, but dont know myself and im scared to commit cos the prodigy are just a little to mainstream and popular and i have a non-conformist reputation to uphold here.

no rulez, you have done nothing to make this thread better, and i seriously cant believe how much you've bothered typing out in responses whilst claiming its all too hard to comeup with this lineup. well **** off then, like i said originally, do it or dont.

i wasnt interested in having a debate with you regarding my picks, but you know what? bring it on. beyond claiming my picks are "bad", how about you elaborate on that? why are they "bad"? id like to see you actually articulate some intelligent criticisms of the bands in my lineup, and ill be happy to respond.

Just because Metallica sold out doesn't mean they aren't great. It's also why I specified Metallica as at 1989 which is when they peaked and it would be idiotic to not consider that time of Metallica as part of a dream line up. Also remember these are dream live performances - and some bands are far, FAR stronger on disc than they are live (Megadeth being a great example).

My most regretted omissions in my list are Anthrax and damn is it hard to pick between Joey or John, but since it's a dream I'll take both! Black Sabbath with Dio because although Dio played various Dio-era Sabbath material Dio never played Ozzy-era Sabbath and if you've ever heard Dio-Sabbath do the Ozzy material you would know that Dio creamed all over Ozzy, in fact I'm going to listen to Dio do Iron Man right now haha. Hendrix and Janice would also be great.

Bookz if you showed me a band that I would be talking about in five years time I would be very surprised haha.

totally agree. i would have loved to include other bands, if i had a third day to play with, would have been cool to include some older bands (Led Zeppeling, King Crimson come to mind) but limited to 2 days the lineup i came up with cover the bands that are closest to my heart. usually these bands had a large impact on shaping my musical tastes over the years, so theres a certain nostaligia element to some of the choices. most of us will be fans of tonnes of bands and genres of music, but where i was going with this thread was trying to think of the bands from a "live" point of view as well as what the music means to you. theres loads of other bands that i enjoy as much as the ones in my line up.

Anthrax AHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Dio can sing brilliantly but Ozzy is the prince of darkness and what he brings to metal music is untouchable. Ozzy is down to earth and rawr as **** he is just a English hard rocker which is what metal is all about. Judas Priest mastered this formula and played it to millions around the world, metal probly would have died with Black Sabbath if it wasnt for Judas Priest.

Ozzfest will continue to thrive as long as he lives and Bruce **** doesnt punch he ***** wife out.

LOL you are funny Xeper I'll give you that. Ozzy down to earth and raw? Holy **** you should do stand up comedy with material like that. You then out do yourself by even conceiving metal's death if it weren't for Judas Priest!

And yes Anthrax are a funny band. Part of their charm was they never took things to seriously and it actually made them more authentic than say, Slayer who are a bunch of Christians which is contrary to many of their themes, but you know they do it for the act! Not too mention that Anthrax were the band that remained closest to the British metal roots. You know those British bands like your beloved Judas Priest?

Ozzy is a English hard rocker http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JoSIGGO ... re=related make **** way.

This album/tour inspired the entire thrash scene, Anthrax are **** losers they invented rap metal aka metal cancer, so much for stickin to NWOBH, they are a bigger train wreck then Metallica.

Bahahah you sir an idiot who knows very little about the history of hard rock and metal. Sure Ozzy is a British hard rocker. He is one of many. Your earlier comment about being down to earth and raw? You do know that Ozzy was FIRED from Black Sabbath for being an **** right?

As for your point about where thrash all came from I can discredit your argument with one simple thing.

That show and album were in 1982.

'Hit the Lights' was written by James Hetfield in 1981. That's right, a thrash song written before your beginning of thrash.

You know **** about **** now go and eat out Halford's ****.

And Anthrax did one song with a rap band. Yes it did mark the beginning of rap metal but I fail to see how that was cancerous to metal. What really hurt metal in the 90s was grunge.

"British Steel - Rapid Fire" was released several years before Metallica even existed and is considered a template for the later Thrash Metal sub genre. Dave Mustaine was listening to Judas Priest before he even started playing Thrash Metal like many other artists, Slayer considers Judas Priest the fathers of metal, even Venom was heavily influenced by Judas Priest. Just the implementation of the Twin Axe had drastic effects on metal music. If "Hit the Lights" was written before Screaming for Vengeance it does not nullify the effect Screaming for Vengeance had on thrash metal overall. They do not call Judas Priest the metal gods for nothing.

By telling me to eat out of Halford's **** hole I can see you are mad because I said you like train wreck sell outs. Anthrax's songs are **** bland, not even worthy of mention. Anthrax and Metallica put together are even worse then race traitor rap metal.

So you've gone from "this album/tour inspired the entire thrash scene" to now influencing it. No **** Priest were influential on the thrash scene. Priest were also not the first band to use two harmonised guitars. The twin axe attack goes back to at least the late 60s. Of course many thrash figures would have listened to Priest before playing thrash but they were not the only one. Consider even the single most referenced inspirational guitarist to the 80s and beyond metal - Randy Rhoads. There is no simple explanation to the development of thrash and Priest are so often cited because it's the popular thing to do but not the right thing to do.

If you find Anthrax's songs bland well that is your loss. From the big four though they have released the best material post 80s and Sound of White Noise is often considered the best post 80s album of the four; in fact one of the greatest albums full stop.

Gotta love people who bag Metallica. They are one of the best live acts you'll ever see and at the end of the day that's what it's all about. They spent the first part of their careers doing tours in buses, hell they even lost a bass player doing it. Now they do their tours in a private jet, but why the hell not? I think they've earned it. Like it or not, they are one of the most popular and hard-working bands in the world. Hardly what I'd call a "train-wreck".
I guess they're just an easy target because they're so **** huge.

Its like creating the most unique and tastiest burger in the world then serving it to 1000's of people everyday. After a short while it becomes an everyday meal for all those 1000's of customers but then you shut down your entire burger business because you are a **** **** and dont give a **** about the customers then start making hotdogs with onions like every other stupid ****.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eySokKo ... re=related

Judas Priest - Unleashed in the East, greatest metal album ever released, Judas Priest - Painkiller greatest metal album ever written, KK Downing and Glen Tipton greatest twin axe in metal history, lead act of NWOBH, most influential band in metal. Judas Priest are the "Metal Gods".

It's okay I didn't make the association properly when I first read it but Xeper's view on music can be totally disregarded.

You can't take his opinions with any worth if he believes that metal is 'white' people music. Metal and hard rock would not exist if it weren't for black music and 'race traitors' as he described them. Clearly if he can't comprehend this than any musical opinion is worthless.

Metallica are like a quiet spliff to reflect upon life, they do the trick if you just want to listen to somthing in the background.

Thrash metal bands are like heroin for metal junkies that have fried their brain and need some heavy **** to give them a fix.

One day you are smokin a J at the beach, the next you are selling your **** to smack horse tranq in your eyeball.

Sad cop out.

Old school Death Angel

Modernised and Polished Death Angel

As you can see Death Angel returned with a new sound and was quite successful in this transformation, the Dethroned album is a solid release. What Metallica did was completely **** retarded.
