I know people who love this show "cause its for smart people" which is completely false because it is Two and A Half Men with a couple more characters, it has a laugh track, no intelligent comedy has a laugh track unless its ironic. Not to mention like Two and a Half Braincells after every scene it plays a stupid animation (in place of "meeeennn"). Really the main reason it is not any good is all the jokes are overly explained, there is a joke, and then one of the characters explain the entire thing to the moronic audience.

S'alright. I couldn't watch a whole episode, but that's more then I can watch most TV. I did notice the 'over explination' that happens, but I guess not everyone gets a joke about objects in motoin... Thou I suspect 90% of the audience laughs along anyway because one of the characters pulls a "This was sexually suggestive" face straight after the pun.

big bang is **** show. its got one guy trying to get laid who is apparently a nerd and he punches above his weight because the chick that lives opposite him was probably raped by her dad and only way he gets some is because its scripted. then they prattle some big words play some laughter and people think its funny. jim parsons gets the awards because only his character is most represenitive of a nerd, you know never gets laid ignores women and is too busy trying to do something useful in his life but failing.

You walk into McDonald's expecting Gordon Ramsey to be cooking? no, your view point is flawed. They have developed the characters quite well to be honest which why I say its passable.

Like all TV and movies, it's a question of taste. Brainiacs at the work they do but when it comes to general life situations they just fall in a heap. It's shows how nerds and the cool guys all have flaws regardless of who they are. I like it because it's a break away from the crud that gets around like reality TV, politics etc, it's an escape.

Tv is full of ****, most gags are obvious, theres never any intelligence in any shows these days, even the law shows I can solve/get the crims off because of holes in the stories at times. there was a post where i reviewed some shows thats pretty much what I think of tv at this point in time. Watched a couple episodes of bully beatdown on the net i believe that was on the TV at one point so guess it counts.

Family Guy did a couple of sketches, with the actual guys from the show, and the basic jist was they were taking the **** out of the **** "nerd" humour, but without being too scathing of it. I was disappointed. They should have been scathing, the show's a pile of formulaic **** with dumb, obvious humour and two-dimensional stereotypes.
Need more shows like Arrested Development. Great, clever, subtle and often black comedy delivered at lightning pace.

I agree with Farmy it all started with My Three Sons and has just been rinse and repeat ever since, you get some stereotypes the fat guy the nerd the sexy guy and the token black fella and you have a sitcom it could be the young ones or big bang their is no difference.

The Token Black Man... It wouldn't be so bad if he had another role to fill.
"You're the Nerd." "Okay."
But, no, the reason he's a Token is because that's what his job description is:
"You're the Black Guy." "Okay, what role do I fill?" "Black Guy." "... Um, that isn't really a thing, that's just a skin colour. Am I a nerd? A jock? Funny guy? Straight guy?" "... You're... You're Black."

Not sure how many shows you guys have watched but there is a big titted blonde that's a micro biologist and thats anything but typical. In another show there is a very solid guy that rides a motorbike who is a physicist. The problem here is millions of people like the show cause there is no swearing or very little, No real violence, No Evictions, No dismembered bodies other than the odd brain, Full use of the English dialect not just F this F that or the usuall S that. The formulas they use are real and thats why they have to explain them.
I love the show and am an avid watcher. But if they turn it into some drama plaque show like Home and Away or Neighbors i will never watch it again. Nor will i watch it if it goes totally stupid with swearing and violence.
Its light hearted comedy where you can use your brain or not. But thats your problem TOOT's You dont have a brain to understand Coitus all unless you look it up.

Can we take a moment to talk about the friggen commercials for this show? Like I said, I've never sat through a whole episode with the intent of just watching it, but I've seen it on and off when it's on. But I saw the commercials for it... "IS THIS THE START OF A SEXY NEW RELATIONSHIP!?" "THINGS JUST GOT SEXY IN HERE!" ... It's... It's like they never even saw the show and just slapped together catch phrases that match what they understand people want to see. I can see them sitting in the office with the one guy who's seen the show for more then 2 seconds trying to tell everyone that it's a sit com about educated people struggling to live in a jocky world, and everyone else is screaming over the top of him: "TALK ABOUT BOOBIES, PEOPLE LOVE BOOBIES!" I also love boobies, just by the by.

Well that's typical of ads though Squid. The purpose of the ad is to say things that will get people to watch it. The show is about brainiacs trying to deal with general day to day situations or as you put it educated people stuggling to live in the world of jocks. However, they go a step further and show jocks stuggling in a world of brainiacs. I see it as a show that highlights the fact that no matter how smart you are, how well educated you are you really are not that smart and logic can be illogical. Take Sheldon for instance, probably one of the smartest people on the planet, yet he can not get his head around the basic idea that other people make decissions that to him are completely illogical. I suppose Sheldon is a bit like a Vulcan, if it's not logical why do it. Watch the Christmas episode where penny gives him the napkin. A little background... Earlier in the episode, Sheldon planned to have multiple presents ready for Penny so he could give her a present equal in value to the one she gave him. This is how it turned out... probably the funniest scene in the series http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlhHTdDqoBcOr a prime example how some people over analyse situations such as making friends http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0xgjUhEG3UThe stuggles of life in the era of the Internet and dating http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gP4IIv2GDkand sometimes, the smart option is also the wrong option http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA96Fba-WHkand that some people just are unable to communicate http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egwQNdKi ... re=relatedand finally just for here at the moment. It shows that no matter how smart you think you are there will always be someone smarter http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=en ... t_CL4Mrcq0So there is a purpose behind the show. Stop analyzing it, see it for what it is.

As for PD I don't think I ever seen it off memory, Peep Show was original only in one way and that was the idea as in camera work etc, the comedy yes had new stuff etc but also had obvious comedy. Pretty much evey joke/skit has been done over the last 50 odd years, just look back to Dave Allen, Jerry Lewis, Bob Hope, Richard Prior and heaps, heaps more. That why Robin Williams said 70/30 It's family friendly for a reason man, it's aimed at families, wow, how do you not realise that. Actually BBT is recorded infront of a live studio audiance. http://www.tv.com/shows/the-big-bang-th ... 4-2315573/http://forum.the-big-bang-theory.com/ar ... d-488.htmlSo it is real laughter but occasionally there is some track put in to help enhance. It's not all canned laughter that you are making it out to be.

1# Boston Legal is the worst **** show ever made. 2# Family Guy is bad 9/10 Episodes, American Dad is **** hilarious though. 3# If you consider a show to be "stupid" or "****" because it does not meet with your pseudo-intellectual standards... I don't even know what to put here, but you are clearly many types of stupid.
-Laugh Tracks, when used properly, are designed to end a joke segment, not to convince the audience that they should laugh. Otherwise you probably wouldn't even know the joke had ended and would be waiting for it to finish, but end up thinking on it during the next sketch, instead of paying attention.
Only really really really **** shows misuse the Laughing... Like F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
I prefer laughing over all the actors staring at the screen with a long pause, no movement and a stupid face aimed at the audience, implying the joke has ended. Like a pantomime. --They actually do this in American Dad and Family Guy sometimes, but they do it well.

I like the big bang theory. I think the napkin scene was one of the best. I also liked when howard brought a chick home and his mother asked who his friend was. And he was like it's just a girl mum. And his mother was all like. "Good i was starting to get a little worried with all the sleep overs you were having with your little brown friend." I was all lol n ****. I don't think people need laugh tracks. I've never seen anyone laugh at a lame joke just cause some canned laughter came on. Sometimes when people claim that shows with canned laughter are only for dum dums. Probably just follow shows with no laugh track so they can appear all "pseudo-intellectual" like. As panda would say. I've seen plenty of shows or comedies with no laugh track thats just straight out ****. Shows like big bang have their funny moments and **** moments just like shows such as arrested development. I really only find the four eyed failed actor guy and the brother, the one who sucks at sports. To be funny in that show. I always enjoy curb your enthusiasm.

big bang may have its moments but most of it is just stereo typic bs and most of it is just recycled gags.
it had a good concept but then it ruined it.
thats why i think it sucks.

The same applies to all comedy shows. Recycled gags. Name 10, hell name 3 shows released in the last 5 years that every episode is fresh with completely new jokes, there is none. So your argument why is sucks is flawed.

big bang scene with no laugh track. on tv 43 of the 44 seconds would have been flooded with laughter. That was funny though, you have to admit. I don't get it. I mean I get the joke, but it's painfully unfunny. A "he inadvertantly got a number off a gay guy" joke? Is this 1991?
