FU baz,get home after a few drinks with mates, quick couple games of bf then bed? and now i'm Wired.
Nah jks, I like electro, but this tune is meh.

I had these guys in our year at school and their stuff **** on that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogMNV33AhCY
I remember in about year 10 (1997) we all got these HP grfx calculators and robert swire thompson programmed Breathe, Prodigy in to his and then transferred it via infrared to most of the school.
Never been big fans of them but they have made it big, regardless of breaking up last week.
I'm sure what ever they put there minds too it will be decent.

That is one of the worst songs I've ever heard. It's like Michael Bay, Evanescence, and My Chemical Romance all got together and decided on a video and song that would spray liquid **** in the face of good taste.

No offense.

None taken, like I said I am not much of a fan of pendulium but in terms of electronic music it **** on baz's tune IMO. Trance tends to get a bit to repetative. But thats it's draw card I guess.

Well the baz OP tune wasn't terrible - kind of sun ra lyrically but the dance music that went with it wasn't intelligent, kind of plastic repetitive, so it doesn't rate so high.

i was obviously referring to the Perth band b4

Gotta agree with the 'pingin' off your tits' thing... Most DnB, techno, trance and electro **** isn't enjoyable unless you're **** up.

Yeah, not really any good fps games going lately. RO2 is alright, but I've been playing mostly SP games, and a bit of DayZ every now and then, but I don't really enjoy it, just seems like a grind. There was a fps game in development I was looking forward to, but I think it used the cry engine or some ****, dunno if it's planetside or not.

I think I like that because it just lets you think, the beat just gives me a tempo and an attitude, and my thoughts are the lyrics.

I dont really like lyrics because it is usually just someone complaining about somthing.
Everyone can relate to someone ***** about life, so it is the most popular.

Classic example of a very popular song that I hate.
Just **** and moan to me.

Techno is more atmospheric than anything else. Some beats really connect and others are just grating. Its a preference.

lol u think that bob dylan song is complaining? oh man really?

Like a Rolling Stone is a celebration of no longer being part of the masses.

ITs about being proud and independent and not tied down to those who know you and so judge you - Its about breaking out of the hum drum routine and escaping to the freedom of the open road and the will to see whats over the next hill

when he asks "how does it feel" he isn't saying "haha u have nothing and u feel bad now don't you" he is saying "doesn't it feel great to be liberated from all your **** and all the cultural crap that make society so boring and mundane hey!" because there is no more **** and you don't have to conform to anything or anyone

This is why so many like this song and why it became an anthem for so many in the 60's.

I agree. Great song.

Currently reading The Dark Stuff by Nick Kent. I highly, highly recommend anybody who wants to know all the gory details of 70s and onward drugged up rock and roll star culture, give it a read. One of those seminal books.

He's complaining about boring, mundane, conforming people living a hum drum routine.

Not only is he complaing, but he inspires millions of others to **** and moan as well.

I dont wanna listen to it. I would rather record the noises that come out of my cat when I stand on his tail and mix them in with some skrillex beats.

baz u are not mundane and boring right? so see it as a celebration. A song that praises those with the courage to not be the same as everyone else and to live life their own way no matter how tough that might be

and give ur cat an extra pat tonight and tell ur cat u appreciate it because i know ur not into animal cruelty

and i knew the name Nick Kent rang a bell thats the guy who almost beat up sid vicious and played with the clash - should get my hands on that book

Baz have you gone full retard?

By such inane logic you might as well rag on Hendrix and say half of his songs are a ***** and moan, or Zepellin, or Floyd, or the Beatles, or any other group that was spawned from that era, because a lot of their stuff is thematically the same as Dylan's. If you don't like Dylan, that's cool, but don't link some disco/funk as an alternative and expect to be taken seriously.

Yeah, he was more of a rockstar than most of the rockstars he was writing about at the time. Get a copy if you can, the revised edition with some extra stuff included.

The disco song was a joke so I guess I didnt want you to take it seriously.
Clearly I don't take music as seriously as most people.
I listen to music for fun, not to be preached some drug **** take on the state of affairs in the world. I dont want to know what Bob Dylan, Hendrix, Zepplin or The Beatles are saying thematically, because they are, as you say, all saying the same thing. If you take **** of drugs, everyone else is weak and pathetic, I get it.

Sure some songs might elevate some peoples perspective to a higher state in some way but, for me, Its just a song. I don't really listen to the lyrics, I just hear them as I would another instrument. As long as it sounds good, I don't care, and neither does anyone else. Its not until an artist produces a hit until people start wondering what they are saying, and if someone sells a million records, well... fans will idolise the artist's nut sweat.

I heard from a reputable source that some people celebrate the notion of being original.
I just find it funny that song writers have to take a truckload of drugs to realise this when they could have read some philosophy texts to avoid the withdrawals in their 50's.

I also find it funny that people think they can actually take originality seriously. I mean how many people can say they are truly original these days. Its just an illusion, its all folly, and merely entertainment. Just because you sing a song about how **** the world is, it's just flaccid and gives hope to people with rose colored glasses. People that sincerely want to change the world for the better are very rare. We need to unite, not be individual **** that just want to be different for the sake of being coool.

Speaking of which.

Speaking of stupid generalisations and stereotypes, I heard some people actually think musicians in the 60s and 70s needed drugs to be original and become "enlightened", rather than drugs just being an incidental part of the culture of the time.

Incidental or not, they did need drugs to be original.
In fact, I think If you are going to try and be original, take as many drugs as you can and you might end up doing something original. But when you come down and realise it takes a bit more than a **** and moan song to change the world, you might get into politics and end up getting shot:

Quote:
Chapman later said he was incensed by Lennon's "bigger than Jesus" remark, calling it blasphemy, and the songs "God", and "Imagine", because of the incongruity between the lyric "Imagine no possessions" and Lennon's personal wealth. Chapman even sang the song with the altered lyric: "Imagine John Lennon dead."

They didn't need drugs to be original, they needed incredible musical talent and minds for writing a good song. Often is the case where **** went downhill as a result of being too spent ie. Syd Barrett.

You're coming up with the most simplistic and retarded analysis of a multifaceted subject since bieltanman debated wulfgang on religion.

The music of the 60's had a massive impact, and did change the world, but it was a different climate than today, so I can see how you might be jaded enough to buy into your own gradeschool rhetoric and rant a bunch of youdontsay.jpg crap.

Remember the 60's? then you weren't there, after the war i guess people were tired of dance halls and so Elvis took every one by surprise and the rods and the cones with their hotted up model T fords Brylcreem hair and widgets with beehives broke free of the war time suppression and discovered the the awesome machine that made the world stand up and pay attention the advent of the electric guitar.
This single instrument made the world as we know it today, musicians are awesome.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkvrbXmbvNQ#t=75s

You are overanalysing a simplistic subject and making it sound like you need a phD in drug **** to understand it.

No, I said "often is the case", and often was the case, Brian Wilson being another perfect example. I'm saying drugs and great music were not inextricably linked. Plenty of musicians have expressed creative genius while sober. Hendrix was still wrote brilliant stuff while sober, and he also wrote brilliant stuff whilst high.

Bill was a genius, but 15 second snippet of a youtube video with a comic delivering a punchline, is not an argument. It's a cop-out, because you're too lazy to formulate a point of your own in which you can demonstrate an understanding of the subject beyond generalities.

You're talking about dozens of individuals, all with different personalities, different styles, vastly different backgrounds - each of them living a full enough life aside outside of drugs to have volumed autobiographies written about them - and you're lumping them all into one category, and saying that what they created was the result of one thing.

If somebody who was learned about every facet of the 60s and the music that spawned from that era wrote a book, it'd be several thousand pages long, and people could learn a great deal from it; gain a great deal of insight that they otherwise wouldn't have had. If you were to write a book on what you are indicating you know of the 60s, it'd be 5 pages long and nobody would learn a single thing.
