It was a concept reel, guys. Ubi came out and said it was an internal demo of what might be and is no way reflective of the final product.

The stuff at the end, with the controller recognising an object seems a little far fetched to me. I doubt it'd even be possible. I think I remember reading the touch screen was capacitive. That means, if you're not up to speed on touchscreen tech, that the screen recnogises the the electricity the human body produces and turns that into input.

Obviously though, that means an object made of plastic isn't going to be recognised. It's the same reason that traditional styulses can't be used with an iPhone. You need those specifically designed one.

It's called a 3d Scanner.

Based on the 3ds style output from the Wii U control, it probably uses the exact same over-area light technology to do the 3d scanning.

3D scanning is not new, or expensive.

Only the Conductive Styluses work on iPhones, some WinMobile 6+ HP PDAs had the Conductive ones. Which would work on an iphone/pad.

I'd be more ready to believe it was a NFC style thing like Skylanders than 3D scanning tech, only because last I recall the camera in the Wii U probably isn't good enough to nail what you'd want out of it.

I can't wait to play Battlefield 3 on WiiU (fingers crossed it's in dev), as much as I love playing the PC version, I'm sure the WiiU version would be just as awesome! Even just down to the little things like using the controller screen to guide your MAV, or EOD bot, or better yet, having the TV visuals remain normal view while you zoom in 12x scope sniping on the controller!

I doubt they would update bf3 and release it on the next gen console. I mean sure it was designed for consoles but the games a piece of **** now and they would lose money from doing it.
