That Wasteland remake got scrubbed, they tried to boss around Bethesda and tell them how to make the game so they told them to go **** themselves.

I don't think I've ever been this excited about a game, and I don't even know what they're doing. Looking at the faces on that page, goosebumps and nostalgia. Kind of want to play through the originals, but they're so dated. Sadly I never got to play Throne of Bhaal, but must have played the first game a dozen times, and the second a few.

Bioware doesn't have anything to do with this. All they did was make some games under license, they have no intellectual property concerning BG, D&D etc. Its all Wizards of the Coast and the new games company they are working with.

Bioware is owned by EA. Interplay published BG1+2. Interplay was owned by Atari. Atari and EA are not friends.

Also, there's now an article on the GA front page that explains who Atari have chosen to work on this.


Install BG+expansion, BG2+expansion ($20 for both from GOG.com), then run EasyTutu to convert BG1 onto the BG2 engine. Then install the Widescreen Mod for both games (which is named badly; it actually allows you to set any resolution you want).

There. BG1 now has gameplay improvements made in the BG2 engine and both games run flawlessly with beautiful 3D accelerated 2D graphics displayed at the HD resolution of your choice.

While you're at it, consider the Unfinished Business mods (community created content based on assets that were left in the game but never used, or quests that were never implemented etc) and perhaps the NPC mods if the dialogue between characters was one of the things that interested you. And then optionally install any of the other ridiculously cool mods that are still being made by the community which is still very active after 14 years.

I'm a BG fanboi, and it makes me facepalm when people like you come along and say "oh don't touch my precious game, it doesn't need an update to it's horrible looking 2D sprites and 30kbps sound" - acting like you're a faithful purist, when really you're just jumping on the hipster bandwagon and saying it for the sake of it.

I'm getting the biggest nostalgia rush. I think I was about 11-12 years old and I had just discovered the world of D&D. Neverwinter nights, Icewind Dale, Baldurs gate 1&2.. If they could do a remake which just updated the gfx and the sound I would be all for it... The amount of content in BG2 far surpases any game out now

baldurs gate and dragon age are 2 of my most favourite rpgs and put together would be pretty epic.

i still like the look of BG1 and Planescape, if you run them with the widescreen patch you can raise the res just a little to get a nice picture

problem is if you go for 1080p it zooms out too far so use modest res

it's not going to be a remake by the sounds of it, it's called Baldur's Gate Enhanced and will use the Infinity Engine from one of their later games (i think Throne of Bhaal? not sure though)

it will have some new content apparently, it's not being made by Bioware so hopefully it won't turn into some Jersey Shore bullcrap like Mass Effect and DA, it's not going 3D anyway which is good

By saying that "neither require a remake" you implied that you weren't too fond of the idea of a remake. With a remake being what it is - an excellent idea to give one of the best game series of all time a much needed graphical overhaul - logic would dictate that you are a bit of a dunce. Updated graphics so it can run at native monitor resolutions and some interface tweaks would do for me, but they apparently plan to add new content as well. I do hope they leave the main storylines alone though.
