Just a FYI for those that don't know, use one of the listed IP filter programs and once you have applied the GameArena filter you will be locked to the GameArena servers, so while downloading any of these Steam games you shouldn't get any data going towards your download quota.

You should allso download TCPView so you can double cheak if you are downloading from the GameArena servers. The GameArena server IP's are listed above.

A Bigpond usage meter gadget, just right click, go to options and once you have put in your un/pw, click on the icon in the bottom left of the meter for unmeterd usage + **** load more info.

Tip*
Sometimes deleting the ClientRegistry.blob file from the Steam directory and restarting Steam can help.

GameArena/Bigpond have no control over what goes on the GameArena Steam content servers.

Doesn't work for me when i enter the number in the box, say 440 for Team Fortress 2 it just says :

"Found 0 content servers that host that AppId.
Server Id Server Address"

Any clue why that is?

It would be good to get a list of "guaranteed to work on Bigpond servers" games.

The Borderlands GOTY doesn't appear to be completely hosted on GA servers. Nor is the Burnout Paradise: Ultimate Box. I checked both, and they were only going to non-GA servers with Frey's enabled, and observing TCPView.

Actually, maybe they are partly hosted on the GA content servers. I did see after a bit a connection to a GA server. Too hard to be sure.

Ive found that when it stops downloading and just sits there doing nothing to make it work you have to turn the filter off, then when it starts downloading again you turn the filter back on again and it will start downloading from the GA servers again.

I think when steam tries to switch to another server from the GA one but cant, because of Frays filter, it just sits there trying over and over again to connect to the non GA server. So turning the filter off gets it out of its loop.

Just my theory anyway but turning it off and back on again has worked for me.

Is there any reason why every australian steam download region gets ridiculously slow speeds?

No matter where I set Steam to download from in Australia it always goes between 30kBps and 300kBps. If I set it to some American one I can get up to 4mBps.

Wouldn't that mean that the file doesn't exist on the bigpond content server if it won't download, as it's locked to only that server?

Steam Watch works aswell but ive found it not to be reliable because it works in the oppisite way to Freys Filter, instead of just using the ip adresses you want to use, you have to enter all the ip address you dont wan't to use, if you miss one ip or a new ip comes out that you dont have in your list, steam has a chance of switching to that server and downloading from it.

Im on Bigpond wireless and with only 12GB of data that i can use each month i can't afford any mistakes.

BTW, ive added some tips to the OP.

SteamWatch uses a whitelist filter. Assassin's Creed II is NOT on the GA servers; disregard any games Exar0012 has posted until someone else confirms.

I'm using steamwatch, set to gamearena, trying to download Stalker (original) & Borderlands GOTY, sometimes it downloads a few megabytes then just sits there at 0kb/s doing nothing, anyone else having this or just me?

I think I'll just leave borderlands downloading and hope I'm greeted by a significant percentage downloaded when I return in the morning.

i can get a constant download but it goes at 5-50 kbs

Yes, i only downloaded 100mb of it and checked after on my usage,and i had 100mb of unmetered.

Any reason the Gamearena servers are so slow lately?, Download speeds between 30-70kb/s not only for the steam servers but even the Gamearena file library. Started noticing it a over a week ago...

I use to get upwards of 700kb/s download speed on these servers.

Same deal here. Seems to have happened around the time all the free-to-play games were released.

I know what you mean about the speed, i use to get up to 550kbs downloading stuff from the gamearena site, but in the last week ive only been getting ~100k. and the speed jumps all over the place.

Yeah I posted a complaint about the slow speeds in the ISP section, might have to contact a GA staff member if they don't fix it, can't download anything here at the moment.

Wings of Prey is not on the Bigpond servers.
