Two questions - is there any word on a TS server yet at all? Is the game going to be made 'discoverable' in COGS?

Might see you there tonight - I'll be the guy in the wreckage underneath a column of smoke!

ookay I've tested The Arena/COGS successfully. The Arena will provide a lobby chat room just for IL-2 1946, and the number of players, ping, map and server settings can be seen without having to start up the whole game. Hopefully this will get the server populated more often as pilots can idle in The Arena while waiting for another player.

I have written a bit of a process in this thread, so let me know if I've mucked anything up (in the new thread, don't hijack this one). If it's any good it may be worth stickying to make the server as popular as possible? Starting up the game 'just in case' someone is up for a stoush is starting to lose its appeal...

Follow the directions here for teamspeak and we're away!

Thanks Bikkies for your assistance!

Sorry guys, work has been hellishly busy and I haven't had a chance to keep up with anything here at home. I'll try get Midnight's thread stickied.

In other news, wolf emailed me a whole bunch of new missions which should be pretty awesome, seems like a lot of work has gone into them. They should be on the server today.

I've also asked Fuzzy about the fact the GA server doesn't show up in The Arena unless added as a favourite server. It seems to be some sort of bug/issue that will hopefully get looked into fairly soon.

lots of flak is good, forces people into bombers, otherwise they'll just fly around in fighters and not try to complete the mission

Yes we set out on that Desert map with Spanky taking out a bomber and the rest of us in fighters trying to cover him as he lumbered through the air ... we soon had cries of boogies at 9 o'clock low or something more along the lines of **** there are some bloody fighters coming in hard on our left followed by where where where oh **** there they are being yelled over vent ; )

Some really good dog fights followed and best of all Spanky lumbered on and dropped his payload on the enemy base while we shot at and were shot by some of the mighty No.3 and RAF boys not to mention the pubbers and a TYG younger gamer.
A few TOG got their first kills a hell of a lot of fun and you can be guaranteed to see more of us on again soon.

Maps were great and kept us on GA instead of looking for action OS.

On another note, I'm pleased to let you know we've got two new IL2 GameOps, Wolf and Studly. Both will make a top addition to the GameOp ranks and will help ensure IL2 kicks on for as long as the community are around.

Hello Gentlemen,

I thank everyone for the kind words about the maps that have been added to the server and it has IMPROVED the amount of pilots being online in the server :)

I have been making a lot of notes as ive been flying along in the server because when a maps made it can work well offline but when its public the AAA seems to get excited and well ,,, lets just say ive been making notes for CHANGES :D

Please , give your ideas ,opinions, and thoughts on the maps aswell as anything that looks wrong.....

I will not get offended the words can never do this as it will be lstened to and action to improve the server can begin, gentlemen please assist its public and growinng but WE need your input to become much greater.

At present my notes are as follows.
Ships firing rates are still TO HIGH and this turns the server frame rates into a slide show :D especially if 3 enemy fly into 3 different ship area's at the same time .

The Timing that the maps run .... Every map has its independant timer some are to short a time ,Not ALL , but some are to SHORT ! i cant believe this but lol its true hehehe 35- 45minutes ZOOMS past so fast that some maps are not fully enjoyed because it runs out of time .
example of this is the bombers can only do 3-4 runs on target and the map changes , it seems some maps have to have longer timers running .

Please gentlemen sometimes Input and ideas seem harsh and i really want to get the IL-2 1946 server running sweet as silk , this means making a map and then it needs to be edited till its CORRECT and this is the time to correct anything , ive mentioned a few notes ive made but there always others im only human :) , your time to help is now :)

While your in the maps flying along if you do see something thats a mistake or you just have a great idea to improve that map ... make a note of the name of the map after clicking REFLY the Name of the map is always in the Description page at the TOP

Best Regards
Wolfie

wolfie just one thing on the AAA, on ships i agree it's too much, ruins the fun of trying to blow them up when it is nearly impossible to get within 5km of them. however on airfields i think we could do with a bit more. too many fights are happening around the airfields on alot of maps and it doesn't give the best dogfighting results, i think if we upped the AAA on airfields it would give people more incentive to go for the targets no where the enemy are taking off from

Moeman you tactical devil you heheheehe :D

Thank you , that is logical but also a great idea .
The Flak that the ships throw out was summed up perfectly by Studly
[Quote] Wolfie this Flaks so think i can walk on it mate [quote]

The Flak / AAA is being worked on , and will be solved.... it does take time to edit so many maps but......
I have help with making the changes to the maps, from yesterday RAF_Sharkzz has offered to help me confront this project head on , so any changes should be easier to complete ,,, also :) we have some more maps coming very soon :D

Thank you Moeman

Anyone who has an idea or something we might not of even considered ,please now would be a good time.

Best Regards
Wolfie

with that in mind, we've gotten permission off Fuzzy to bump up to 20 slots on the provision that if it starts lagging the BF2 servers hosted on the same machine it'll have to go back to 16 slots.

I am making some changes to the original maps i have here at home, that WILL reduce any lag we are seeing at present, these changes will be all done by next week :) the server will be running much smoother in the near future.

i can't imagine that it will cause much trouble to the BF2 servers, the horrific net code of BF2 should be balanced out by the very good netcode in IL2, it uses up very little bandwidth, i've seen a heap of players on player hosted servers in the past

hi guys ....love your server ....and fly with no3 and dowoz guys ....need to get my wings ...

but i feel that the f4 key is not in the spirit of the game .....as is f2 and f3 keys ....as flying in my loved P51 mustang ..when i can ...that hitting the "F4" key ...is a form of cheating ...the only view should be from the **** ....and using team chater and toggal switch or mice for viewing from my plane to find the enemy ....makes this harder get on my six and blast me to bits ....turns the game from easy dogfights to more team work to found the enemy

cheers chucky ......

Hello all,

Presently we have fairly easy settings , with respect that helps the new comers to flying and i believe this easier setting has helped these people learn to fly much better and also much faster learning curves.

At present our settings are as follows :-

blackoutsredouts = 1
clouds = 1
**** = 1
complexemanagement = 1
engineoverheat = 1
final =
fluttereffect = 1
gamemode = openplaying
gamename = il2sturmovikfb
gametype = dogfight
gamever = 4.08m
headshake = 1
hostname = GameArena IL-2 1946
hostport = 21010
limitedammo = 1
limitedfuel = 1
location = 1
mapname = net/dogfight/custom/GA_Jan1945_Dogfight_20Tank.mis
maxplayers = 20
noicons = 0
noinstantsuccess = 1
nomapicons = 1
nominimappath = 0
nooutsideviews = 0
nopadlock = 1
nospeedbar = 0
numplayers = 0
queryid = 1762.1
realisticgunnery = 1
realisticlandings = 1
separateestart = 0
stallsspins = 1
takeofflanding = 1
torquegyroeffects = 1
vulnerability = 1
windturbulence = 1

I would like to throw an idea ,on the table and see what you all think :D

TURN everything to ON for 1 month and see how it feels in 1 months time.
This also shows if its better and also if it brings poeple to the server more or less than now.
The above list shows ZERO were something is turned off , which means its present in the game at the momment.

list below that are in use on the server below:-

noicons = 0
nominimappath = 0
nooutsideviews = 0
nospeedbar = 0
separateestart = 0

If with your approval ofcourse :D , we changed these 5 lines that have a ZERO to a ONE ......

These changes would mean:-

You do not see enemy NAME boldy printed in the SKY !
You do not see any bases or target area's on the map
you do not see anything but **** view
you do not have speed indicator on the bottom left of your monitor while ingame.
you do not start both engines when you press ignition button you will have to set a ket for each engine to start all engines .

If your up for a laugh this could be good fun and challenging because you will all be having a learn to navigation and speed management your plane sort of a crash course lesson while flying in combat.

We could try this out and change it in 1 months time if its too much but it would be like you have just climb in to a **** of your plane and you need to LOOK at the **** controls to see your GEAR is up and flaps are down and that your not going to Taxi into the park plane infront of you that you can not see yet lol

Just as Life and flying go hand in hand,,,, gentlemen ,,you will crash more and you will be challenged even greater , but the challenge is up to you all.

I am ready for a MONTH of fun ,,,

ARE YOU !!!

:D

With Best Regards
RAF_Wolf

S! Chaps!

Firstly, been a tad busy lately so apologies for not posting sooner or more often.

Excellent idea on the full realism stint there Wolf, good show! I’ve worded up the TOG lads and they are expecting the changes any time now.

While I’m on my feet, how are the changes going in relation to the Uber AAA on the maps? Is there something I can do to help as I appreciate it takes a fair bit of work and it would be time consuming. With the large increase in numbers on the server, lag is certainly happening more often in and around heavy AAA positions.

yeah scoob the maps update has taken alot longer than normal because lol i found out the objectives being completed does not change the map .

that has and will be rectified very soon , i was hoping to have it completed by now but sometimes the things that look easy turn out to be huge nightmares hehehehe,

Gentlemen,

The Server is 100% .

We will have people getting lost and flying off into the distance , these pilots need a tutor to show them how to NAVIGATE , please help them when you can.
Just driving around the airfield will become extremely dangerous you might taxi into parked buildings ect,,, be care ful , please keep taxi speeds low , slow is safe.
And yes, :D some of you will bombing friendly targets but its all a learning curve.

Please help others if you see they are lost flying around the pacific , just look for the frustrated tell tail signs of "wing-waves" as they look both sides for landmarks lol

This style of server will have to be talked about in the forum and over the month we will see how the game play evolves.

IF its too hard we can amend or reverse the settings but lets give this a month.
It does take time to learn to fly this style , and no icons means that you will not see the name of enemy flying up behind you ....

you will see the BOT of a far off plane, and if needed this DOT can be edited so its easier to see, but at present its set on NORMAL DOT RANGE .

Team work does help you survive but if you "bug-out" of a dogfight in 100% setting this does mean you can HIDE , which is an advantage of survival, no name icon means your dot could blend in with the landscape while escaping the dogfight.

Enjoy , and help the learners , they will appreciate the help :)

Good to see DoWoZ in the skies and check SIX !!!!!!

Best Regards
RAF_Wolf

Feedback From =TOG=

Firstly, can I say what a privlege it is to fly in the GA server, and I want to thank all those who have enabled this to happen.

As Squad Leader of the IL-2 TOGers, I have been asked to feedback to you the thoughts of our members.

Several members would prefer the easier settings, and have actively been discouraged by Full Real.

Personally I prefer them as they are, but can well understand their view.

Is it possible to have a balance?

Regards,

I have tried the server and wish to register my dislike of the current settings. I understood the GA server is a public server. To make the settings the most difficult will likely discourage new and casual pilots.

The full hard settings take a fair bit of skill. I guess most people want to win, so try to get the settings that give them the best chance. Easier setting tend to reduce the skill level required so helps out the average pilot, but they don't really disadvantage the better or more experienced pilots.

My experience has been that you either have to spend a fair amount of time practicing and/or buy the flying aids or be prepared to become a target for those who do.

I suggest outside views and the minimap path as a compromise.
