Hi everyone,

So as to move IL2 discussion out of the Suggestions/Feedback forum into a more appropriate forum now a server has been put up, I've created this thread (the old thread is here: http://www.gamearena.com.au/forums/feed ... hp/4199294 and should only be used for reference purposes only as I will only check this thread from now on).

Recently a bunch of GA users who are dedicated IL2 fans got together to show their interest in the formation of a GA IL2 server. The show of support was successful and an IL2 server has been created:

GameArena IL-2 1946 (il2sturmovikfb) 144.140.154.29:21000

This should be visible in the "Arena Servers" tab under the IL2 Forgotten Battles area in The Arena.

IL2 dedicated servers are a bit more complex to maintain than other game servers so usually any changes needed are a pretty painful affair for the admins. I've stepped in to try make life as easy as possible and get the settings you guys want to make the GA IL2 server popular and hopefully maintain enough interest to keep the server going.

At this stage the server setup is the most basic default setup. I'm now wanting to get your assistance with improving the settings and maps. Certainly something I plan to look into is FB Daemon, better missions/maps, aircraft restrictions (I hear people don't like jet whores) and possibly view restrictions (though being a casual pilot I'd feel like my nads had been sliced off without my external view!).

At this stage the catch is always going to be that we all need to make life easy for each other so as things can get done and you can see improvements appear more quickly. By that I mean we need to make the admins life easy, if I present a trouble free step by step instructional job for the admins, things happen much quicker, if I say, this is what they want, we might be waiting for ages. That being said, the more information you can provide with your suggestions the better. If you think something should be changed in the config, for example removing player icons, try provide the corresponding command so I don't have to go hunting through documentation to find it (I'm not tops at IL2 configs).

So, now it's up to you. Reply in this thread with any suggestions as to how we can improve the GA IL2 server and I'll see what we can do.

Just a suggestion but has anyone contacted the australian skies server to ask if we can have a copy of there maps and scripts for a bigpond server im sure they would be honoured if asked .....

Also Warbirds servers .....

i personally will find the scripts for afew maps that are linked together so once its up and running it switches maps on a timer .....

would this help.

A BIG Thanks Landers for your work on this it is much appreaciated. Yes Wolf usualy Schnell or Uben are admins on Aussie Skys but i dont know if they would be keen to do that as it would desert thier server but you can only ask and its good to have a new server with low ping for us Aussie pilots,again Thanks Landers and Trog Good Show!!

hey il2ers, great to hear the local server is up! ive been wondering how the leading of a target is effected by ping. interesting to see how it goes with the lower ping :)

With the map choices i am happy with all of them, i would like to see the different stages and theaters of the war. As much variety as possible. I understand the issue with the Jet aircraft from reading posts, however ive never been on a server with any jets on it, i would be interested to try it out sometime, in a fair and reasonable way for eveyone. (maybe a specific jet map with a few early jet selections on it)

Also this may be a long shot, could we somehow combine the Dogfight and Co-op game modes in some way. So that pilots that want to try bombing can fly to targets with a fighter escort or small squad, in a semi mission based but still free flowing online game.
Dogfight servers are great i just think the teams should work together in a more contructive way. overall everyone is usually quite helpful if your in trouble flying a slower plane, i think the way the maps are set up could incourage more teamplay though. eg. have X amount of ground target objectives and limited planes, the team that completes one of the objectives first wins.

Hey Spo0k Good to se another Pilot i have been putting that idear to Landers. You will find a Jet map on Australian skies as jets arnt all that popular it come in every second rotation of the maps.Iam hoping GA will set the server to full realisum and engine management as you can fly a Aircraft a lot better and to its full potentional. Even the guys who started out flying with HUD and ureal settings and have been trained to fly with Full realisum dont like it,once you fly with all realisum on you wont go back.

As for the maps as stated i would like to see maps set during a certain time period with the correct Aircraft of that time to make it historicaly correct,i love that GA have left skin downloads on Well Done Chaps please keep that setting.If you are interested in flying in a Squadron you can check our site out. dowoz.webhop.net

Ok ive got 25 maps all scripted and the permission to use them ,,

They have targets in maps for bombers to do high level bombing runs on boats and factories or to fighter pilot shoot truck convoys ect

i havent worked out how to write a autokick line , ,, so that if someone decides to team kill it boots them after a 800 minus score, but maybe someone here can help with that ...

both teams are equal plane load outs and work very well .

who needs these maps and more importantly do they need them linking together in rotation

NO3 Squadron nice flying with you :)

Best Regards

Hey rafwolf I replied to your PM.

I forgot to add that we can get the maps and any essential files added to the GA File Library. This would ideally just be the maps and anything else that ordinary users would need to join the server (so minus the server configs and FBdaemon stuff). Anyhow, I'm awaiting your reply and we can get this going.

hi landers once again thanks for doing all this work for us looks like this server is really going to come out well. not trying to put the pressure on or anything but when do you think the new maps/settings will be up and running on the server. also i think we should try and orgainise a time to all get on the server together when it's working properly and have a nice big bash to get things going

I've been looking at FBD2 the last couple of days, has anyone got a working FBD2 config + accompanying confs.ini they could shoot across to me, I just can't get FBD to connect to the il2 Server, I assume I've not got the right IP settings in confs.ini or something. There are guides I've read through but the engrish is terrible and the guides aren't too useful.

No to a dedicated one but I will organise an unpassworded IL2 channel in TS and Ventrilo. I'll let you know when that's done (probably tomorrow).

Once you have the software unzip it to your desktop.

Now, we will just do enough to allow you to host a game, nothing more, but this is all you should need to know for now.

Read the steps.

1. Download FBD2 ( if you require the program please ask).

2. Unzip FBD2 to your server's desktop (into its own folder).

3. Navigate to your 1946 FB Server game installation folder (mine is found in directory D:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946)
3A. Find the i18n folder open this folder and backup netmessages.properties.
Go back to your FBD2 install folder on your DESKTOP open this , and rename netmessages.fbdaemon.properties to netmessages.properties, and move it into your 1946 FB Server's, i18n folder which is found in Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946.

4. Open the configuration file (fbdaemon2.cfg) this is found in your DESKTOP folder and enter ALL required info, as well as any optional configs you would like to use. Be sure to follow the descriptions/instructions closely as you go through them.

okay OPEN fbdaemon2.cfg using notepad only

You only need to alter FOUR things in this file from the default file.

ONE/......

If you have unzipped the FBDeamon folder to your desktop you need to tell the program where it is.

Change the lines..

# Full path to FBDaemon2 (must include trailing '/')

daemon path=C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/Desktop/FBD2/

To the correct path to the folder where you have unzipped FBDeamon.

For me this line read.

daemon path=C:/WINDOWS/Desktop/FBD2-Beta/

TWO/......

if your 1946 FB installation is to the default directory you need to change the line:

# Full path to FB Server (must include trailing '/')

path=C:/Program Files/Ubi Soft/IL2 FB Dedicated Server/

To this...

# Full path to FB Server (must include trailing '/')

path=C:/Program Files/Ubi Soft/IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/

THREE/.....

Now you need to tell the program your current IP address.

and change the lines

ip=192.168.0.1:2000

to your current IP, but leave the port set to 2000.

Note: you must add IP=2000 [or some number] in your confs.ini under [console]

open up your confs.ini file (in Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 folder) in notepad.

and make sure the line IP=2000 is there in the console section, if its not, add it.

Example below:-
[Console]
IP=2000
HISTORY=1024
HISTORYCMD=1024
LOAD=console.cmd
SAVE=console.cmd
LOG=0
LOGTIME=0
LOGFILE=log.lst
LOGKEEP=0

FOUR/....
Scroll to the bottom of this page and click "Page Up" Once
Look for :-
#scorekick=-100
This needs to be changed to a greater value and the # sign deleted
Example below:-
scorekick=-800

SAVE ! (Dont SaveAS) please only click save , you have been warned lol

At a later date we can write a extra line or two in this folder that changes the difficulty settings which i know will bring great joy to all us pilots :)

5. Start FBD2 by clicking on the FBDeamon2.exe file. You should see the message

"Cannot find server on this IP, WAITING".

6. Your ready to go, just start IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 and launch your hosting session with any FBDeamon mission, as soon as anyone enters the game you should see a welcome message, this means that the server is running.

This will get you hosting a simple game, as we get further into it i will post more tips and advice on how to do certain things, untill then, at least you have all the information here in one thread to allow you to modify a mission, set yourself up, and host a game.

The only thing you have to do every time you want to host a game is change your current IP address in the fbdeamon.cnf file.

Please let me know if you dont understand any of this :)
it is complicated but getting the server actually running is harder than this small step.
As i have never actually done a dedicated server its took alot of time to work out and understand this i hope it makes sense.
I will get back to you soon on how and where to place the fbdaemon mission files i sent you landers ,so they work when the server goes fbd2 .
At present i dont think they would rotate or even start online because some more added lines would be needed to be added.
I just figured i would post this so you can see the steps.... i thik that ive simplified the steps.

Best Regards
Back soon

im sorry Landers im from england and im not sure what BORKED means lol

the maps ive sent you need to be placed in a certain folder but the original files in that folder need to be removed first i just need to read up on where and how and in what order the maps should be placed
so i take it your upto the setup level of my previous post .....is that correct ?

including the fourth change ie -

scorekick=-800

Hello Landers

I can see what you ment earlier about the confusing and poorly wrote engish tutorial on setting up and i will need to know where you have got up to ,exactly to help .

link im going to ref. below

http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/fresian/page03a.htm

ok were are you upto?
in step 1 section
have you done step 7 the COMS
number 16 and 17 are a nightmare lol did you get this solved?
Step 2 have you completed this ?

we are so close to completing this its scary , i know how to rotate maps but they will not be work unless these steps are all correct.
Just so you know , ive read that the actually setup of a dedicated server is harder to complete than converting one to fbd2 ,
so well done :D

I've gotten some write access to server config files, importantly server.cmd where I've changed the difficulty settings to something of a more hardcore setup.

Rafwolf says he's able to make some missions with targets and limited era's (40 - 43 or something) to combat the odd jet or rocket (lol, I'm guilty) screaming into a 1941 era dogfight. If anyone else knows of a decent mission or two, link me up and I can get them to the admins to upload whereupon I'll be able to rotate them after that.

This is a fairly stopgap measure while we toil with getting a good FBD2 setup but it should make the server a little more entiscing for the squadrons.

Fuzzy has uploaded a bunch today that Rafwolf sent me a while ago, I have no idea which one is good to use but I've just chucked one called Essen on for now, I'll change map every couple of days. Like I said, any extras you want added give me a link and I'll get them up.

As for now, a bunch of settings have been changed and the above mentioned map is running. If there are any settings you think are dud, please let me know.

Landers fantastic news that youve got access and very well done , that MUST of took some politics and paper pushing to achieve , even if you havent said , Once again well done....

Im glad we are not stopping this push towards FBD2 style server, its very worth while once in place :)

I have some maps ive been gathering up and afew im still working on at present i will put some hours into completing hope to have 3-4 maps completed TONIGHT !

Landers should i email them to you ?
Should i include the fbd2 script in the map files so when its up and running we can test the server using these same maps?
Mega great news Landers lol youve made my day !

Didn't take any paper pushing, I just had to get a couple of files added to gamecreate for editing.

If you complete maps, include everything (FBD scripts and all) and just email it or PM me a URL for it

yeah i'm not sure if that was just that one map, also one point with the icons, not urgent or anything, but when you have the plane type show up even when black it does give away which team they are on, anyway the server settings are almost perfect now so really nice job guys.

i'll be on tonight and i'll try and bring along as many guys as i can, hopefully we can get the server close to full and have a bit of an organised bash out

Well good news is I've got FBD2 sort of working here with my setup at home. I need some mission files and to get some directory references from Fuzzy but all is well it seems. I just need to get it to a stage where I can package it, get Fuzzy to load it onto the server, add the configs to Gamecreate and we should be set.
