Why do people even care about this? What's the problem?

Well Einstein, it basically in one fell swoop destroys any concept of needing skill and or time in game to achieve reward in the unlock system.

Who gives a ****? If you are in a firefight against someone using a high level unlocked weapon, what difference does it make whether they paid to get it or played for 20 hours to get it? It doesn't change the game in any way.

Yeah I don't have any issues with this..

It just means if a person wants they can fork out extra money for the unlocks..
I think its good for people who dont actually have time to play the game a great deal

It has noting to do with skill really.. as most people that have "Skill" tend to use the ealier unlocks most of the time anyway

Talking about fails. I hear after the patch the maf can still be ridden but you have to lay on it.

Yeah thats pretty fail.... I havent seen any actaul PC date for the patch yet.. but if they did PS3 the other night it will be next week I belive*

but yeah another point with unlocks.. to me its like a MMO with gearing you play long enough you get them no matter how unskilled you are... So why not make it avalible for purchase and make some extra money from it

reaching out to casual's and offering them packages doesnt effect the metagame. Most unlocks and general stats are padded in 24/7 metro so I wouldnt be over exaggerating the circumstances in which unlocks are achieved.

For some people the jet unlocks would never be achievable - could imagine people buying those in order to have any chance against skilled pilots

people with less time often (not always) have more money, and want to play at the same level as those with the spare time

Plus, it's not like it levels them. They still have to climb rank with their kits so it's highly likely a lot of these players will get bored and leave.

The point is, it's completely against everything the unlock system is all about in the BF franchise. The unlocks are an award for meeting a certain criteria. This "buy your unlocks" is a sign of the times. People want instant gratification in everything, they are not prepared to "do the hard yards" they want it and they wanted it two weeks ago. EA/DICE are merely cashing in on that weakness of people and because they are not listening to the right people.

I do see the benefits on a business level. However, as I stated above that is not what unlocking is about in the franchise. It's about working for them.

Does it really matter? No not really, they are going to get them sooner or later. However, these players will stand out and will be frowned upon by possibly the majority and will become a target on a server by those who "done the hard yards" to get them.

Also note that the only weapons which are available for purchase are the kit-specific items, so things like the USAS still have to be earned (thank god everyone can't just buy it).

There is no skill what so ever in the unlocks of BF3. No what so ever.

they should have kept the unlocks like they were in BF2, its way to easy to unlock everything now

Personally I think it looks super cool when almost every player in the server is a Colonel, makes a lot of sense and is a real reward for putting in the hours.

You can get to Colonel a lot quicker in BF3 than BF2. So less hours for more award. **** house.

Yeah - I was roughly Sergeant Major / 2nd Lieutenant in Bf2 after the equivalent hours I have now put into Bf3 to make Colonel 11.

Ranking up an extra Colonel number (clearly with no real life meaning) is pretty unrewarding.

Well I personally dont like unlock systems most of the time.. look at most of the great multiplayer FPS' of the past.. just about all of them had no unlock system and all weapons avalible to everyone from the go.. FPS is about going out there and kicking ****.. no grinding for gear

But that is what BF is about, pure and simple.

Seriously, who gives a **** about ranks and unlocks. If you are playing to collect little badges for your profile then you should stick to Farmville. Give everyone all the weapons and let the best team win.

I would play bfbc2. Until i got all the unlocks, then the game became boring.
