After a vicious battle the week before in Karkand, the SOBR commanders thought some rest and recreation would be the ideal way for the boys to pull themselves together. The R & R location turned out to be a series of dark cold caves in the hill side with no food and only the goats that the enemy had left behind, ( for what purpose we will never know). The lads were getting a bit jumpy before the Commander called a meeting and finally announced what was going on. “ You see the construction vehicles have all rolled out now, Karkand has been patched up and is suitable to occupy and be used as a base now. That why we have been preparing for this fight. Now is the time to put the last week behind and move into a glorious future.” He proclaimed to the gathered troops, although it seemed to be a slightly smaller gathering as 3 troops had gotten lost in the caves, and one well, now you know why there are no goats on the hills in karkand any more.
The SOBR troops poured from the caves, and headed down to Karkand but they weren’t the only ones who had the same idea as The enemy commanders had decided that Karkand would be a perfect staging point for a battalion from Hells First Infantry. Once more the SOBR commanders shook their heads and then had some words to say with their gods as surely this can’t be happening again.
Round 1 – SOBR as Russian Heading into a defensive round is never easy especially when you are playing 4 players down. That didn’t worry the SOBR boys one bit, the problem was Hells 1st had shown up with a full team and also they loved to mix it up in hand to hand fighting which is what karkand is known for. Plenty of AT from SOBR to start the round, with a defensive line thrown around the hotel. With Hells 1st, pushing the armour together up the main highway and also probing the flanks with some infantry.
Hells First kept the pressure on, but a steady diet of AT stopped the Tank and the APC early on, but they were soon back into the fray. Hells First also hit upon a nice flanking suburbs move heading into the hills, wiping through the SOBR flank guard and then perching on the hill top overlooking the fountain. It was soon to become a focal point for a very small war in its own right, with both sides employing sneaky tactics, RPGs and SMAWS at close ranges, knifes and even i believe there was a MAV doing fly bys. Mean while Hotel and Square were changing hands as well as the SOBR tank and an infantry squad tried to hold the massed human wave attacks from hells first off, but slowly they succumb to the pressure.
First Hotel went and then Square was taken by Hells as well with the SOBR counter attack caught between 2 flags and nearly crushed except for a lucky intervening piece of rubble which covered the squad leaders hasty retreat to a safe distance and allowed SOBR to reposition to retake Square. C flag had change hands a number of times and once fountain was in their hot little hands it seemed that all of a sudden the Hells first numbers had multiplied, because they were appearing all over the map and no matter how many you shot there was always more coming. Like in one of those whack a mole games, no matter how many times we hit them with the hammer they kept coming, and then all of a sudden Hotel, Square, fountain were in the hands of Hells first and the bloody moles now had the hammers and also the bleed. Things were looking Dire for SOBR as market fell to a massed armour push and the armour didn’t stop rolling pushing in to try and get the cap out and take out E. The cap out push didn’t quite work as SOBR had retaken market and then sending around a squad to push square. But once more superior numbers came into the account and Any flag that SOBR threatened or managed to grey Hells First would come in with a their armour steam cleaning the flag and their infantry to mop up the leftovers. Things got even tougher as Hells First seemed determined to push for the cap out, the bleed was already making mince meat out of SOBR’s tickets but they wanted more, and they Push and hit Market in an avalanche of numbers and then flowed onto Train Wreck absolutely pulverising the area with armour and troops getting the flag grey and finally capping the flag having SOBR with no flags for about 30 seconds or so, but some sneaky SL had left and pushed onto Fountain and also Hotel. Not only that one sneaky little bugger was hiding around the back of Train Wreck waiting for everybody to bugger off, and as soon as they did, SOBR recapped Train, and then also capped Hotel but just as Hotel capped, it was all over, The bleed just being an absolute nightmare when you don’t hold any flags. The round ended up 187-0 in favour of Hells First.
Round 2 – SOBR as USMC. After a short break and the decision this time by SOBR to apply some lube before heading into the city. It was always going to be a tough ask for the SOBR boys. Hells First were primed and waiting and a swarm of AT greeted the roll out, there was mines there was everything you could imagine to try and stop the oncoming onslaught ( well ok it wasn’t really an onslaught but it sounded good)
The fighting was intense around Hotel and on the outskirts of town with numerous reports of being pinned down and armour is down from the SOBR team. The only ray of sunshine was 1 lone SL making his way along the railway line to the back flag of Hells first being very quiet and very sneaky he managed to get his squad onto the flag and cap it for the first flag cap of the Match for SOBR.
Now Hells First were not too impressed by this little outcome and so they send numbers back to crush the little insurrection and crush it they did, they squashed the assault infantry under their brutal jackboots, and they to add insult to injury recapped the flag leaving SOBR once again without a flag and no foot hold in the City.
The bleed was eating tickets faster than Hells First could shoot or SOBR could die from their well positioned infantry and solid supporting tank. Throwing caution to the winds, once more SOBR chanced the sneaky panda and it worked not only that, the maniac APC driver somehow ( don’t ask me how as he doesn’t know himself) got through the Hells First AT line, and got around the back landing a Squad not only on fountain but also on train wreck as well, and the 2nd prong was launching into market having come down past square along the wall.
Hells First did a double take and were like WTF how did that happen, and then they kicked it up a gear becoming brutal in their flag assaults, pouring large amounts of lead into the bodies and forcing SOBR to sprint for cover and flags as they ground towards their back flags taking them one by one, determined to regain the bleed, as SOBR managed to hold it for the first time since the very start of round 1.
SOBR were trying to keep the pressure on and kept hitting the flags capping them but no sooner were they capped and SOBR had pushed out, Hells First came in and recapped, making the attack almost pointless, The fire fights grew in volume as soon SOBR held Square and Fountain and nothing else and then it just became a meat grinder of infantry and armour as Hells First still held an AT squad at hotel pushing the SOBR armour back and then slowly pushed their troops into Square and also Fountain.
But as the bitter fighting was getting to its peak in around the 2 middle flags, the round ended, that brutal mistress of the battlefield known as bleed had robbed both sides of an climatic gun battle to end the game. Round 2 went to Hells First 208-0
Well the SOBR commanders have gone back to the planning table and wondering if they need to offer a live sacrifice before the next match to get the gods favour.
Congrats to Hells Infantry, the battle was a brutal one and we expected some intense infantry combat and it was certainly there. Look forward to seeing you guys in another match in the future, this one was a real humdinger and would have love to have played with a full team. Final Score 395-0 to Hells First Infantry
