Everything has tested well, so we are ready to start Freeplay for the 16v16 Conquest ladder.

Not that I'm anticipating a race to make Freeplay challenges, but I'm sure someone would complain if we didn't give a little notice, so:

Freeplay will be enabled at 6:30pm AEDST today.

We'll integrate the B2K maps as soon as they are released, but they won't be mandatory unless we get a unanimous vote in favour.

At the end of the freeplay period we'll take a quick vote on anything necessary (map sizes, ticket counts, health regen, spawning on squad leaders, if we should allow DLC unlocks etc) then get going. I'm roughly planning starting Season 1 in the second week of January.

The current map list is:

32 player maps: (100% of normal 32 player tickets)
Caspian Border, Seine Crossing, Damavand Peak, Kharg Island, Operation Metro

64 player maps: (70% of normal 64 player tickets)
Grand Bazaar, Teheran Highway, Operation Firestorm, Noshahar Canals

Not sure what you mean Pahkiller. If you are talking about the names of the servers that will be used for the games, they'll be based on the two teams in the match - they are created when they are needed then removed after the match.

Excuse my ignorance dont quite understand what you are saying!

Ok so challenge a clan but its free paly like the old way it use to be done?
doesnt count in the ladder?

The games wont change any rankings in freeplay. You can accept or deny the game with out any rank changes.

Once the ladder is out of freeplay and live then all matchs will count to your ranking.

As for server names they will incorperate the teams names eg. GameArena GALDR Clan A vs Clan B (rough example) You will recieve this information in an email once the match has been accepted.

Rules, I knew we forgot something. Will do. (but its basically "don't be a ****" and "play each side once, count tickets").

If I was a betting man, I'd bet Pinge that there would not be a rush ladder, kill the rush ladder we are already working on, take his money, then setup a rush ladder anyway.

Good work. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out and if any weapons or maps do need changing. Looking forward to seeing how it comes along.

Rush will be 10v10 at a guess. If you are after a 12v12 conquest, I'm not sure that we want to run 3 BF3 ladders, but if everyone wants it...

Well thats better than a no but i would be inclined to make it 10v10 CQ rather than 12v12

Are you sure that starting the ladder early in January is such a good idea?

The second week of January would put the start date in around 4 weeks, with Christmas and New Years coming up I can imagine quite a few teams will be inactive for maybe 2 of those weeks.

That doesn't leave a whole lot of time for testing.

Mortars are not that bad... especially now that they have had their reload time extened and accuracy dropped.. they are good for flushing out defenders for a push or dropping smoke but not much else really...

theyve had their accuracy dropped????

i pretty much only use them against other mortard users who happily just sit in their uncap without leaving it all round..... some of them cry soooo much, and i havent seen any accuracy drop

So what exactly are going to be rules concerning B2K?

Also will we be able to use B2K weapons on a regular map?

Good question, since we are implementing B2K maps we should look at the weapons and see what/if any inbalances there are.

Any chance of updating the rules into the 'Rules' page for the comp, as currently they are spread out through numerous threads.

Just will make it easier to get clan's to signup if they are all in one place :)

If you want to make the ladder bf2 like..

a rule revision to take out SOFLAM, javelins and any laser guided stuff.. would make the B2K maps awesome(and the ladder better imo)..like sharqi and kark don't need guided stuff..

I hope you're joking, but going by some of your past posts, you are serious.

Every single 'guided' weapon is ridiculous and simply allows bad players to get undeserved kills. The only weapons that should be guided are AA.

Would that make me a bad soldier if in a RL war I took out a plane with a Javelin? I think not. Its a battlefield scenario and this is realistic enough.

I see planes flying a lot longer at times than I stay alive when I'm playing assualt on the TOG servers. That's because they are good pilots and use the landscape to lose locks etc.

Just because they are in a jet or heli doesn't give them the right to own the game, and stay alive longer in a weapon that's fairly powerful.


However I agree there should be something done about the SOFLAM, maybe lose its lock after a certain amount of time after someone has launched a attack at the target (unless this already the case). I don't use guided weapons often enough to have noticed, but I do find them handy at times.

By 'AA' I was intending to encompass methods for targeting all airborne vehicles. But if the Javelin could not be used on ground targets, there would be no need to have it as Stingers would suffice.

Let me make it clear; Soflams and Javelins are a blight on the game and ruin the game both casually and competitively. They are quite possibly the single worst addition to the Battlefield franchise. In Battlefield: Vietnam, people complained about the introduction of guided air-to-air missiles. And now, we have this situation where jets, choppers, tanks and inf all have some auto-seeking crap weaponry. The use of Soflams allows for mass f****try by bads. On Karkand a single soflam at Square can target enemy vehicles that are barely 50m out of their main base.

Yup that's me. I'm usually just content to read the forums. Since this is my first ladder I have had no need to voice my opinion on these forums in the past.

I saw something that interested me and thought I would share my input...

Also after re-reading the post I agree AA should be just that and weapon target types should not change just because of a SOFLAM.

barons played probably 100 ladders and knows what should be done to make the game fun for everyone. hes also plenty aware GA is running the less competetive format unlike CG, so hes got no agenda to try and make the ladder more restricted than it needs to be. and then you come on here having never played a clan match and try and tell us how that time in iraq you took out a plane with a javelin it wasnt unbalanced.
